A gentle wake up, opposite the ocean<\/div>\r\n

This morning, the golden sunlight filters through the curtains. On the mobile home terrace, you have a leisurely breakfast; orange juice, mini baguettes with Plougastel strawberry jam, and cr\u00eapes still warm for those with a sweet tooth.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s destination: Concarneau! The children are impatient. They\u2019ve heard about the walled town with its ramparts. Rucksacks ready, flasks filled, sun cream on\u2026 you\u2019re en route for a day steeped in history, boats and ice cream!<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n \"Les<\/picture> <\/div>\r\n<\/div>

Your arrive in Concarneau, the gateway to the walled town<\/div>\r\n

You park near the marina. There is already a lively atmosphere; boats gently swaying, seagulls calling overhead and craft workers opening their stalls.<\/p>\n

After crossing the drawbridge, you enter the walled town. The cobbles echo underfoot, wrought-iron signs swing in the wind. The children play at being explorers, having fun locating cannons and arrow slits lining the ramparts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n

A trip to the Mus\u00e9e de la P\u00eache<\/div>\r\n

You enter the Mus\u00e9e de la P\u00eache fishing museum, located in a former canning factory. The children are fascinated by the restored trawlers, crab traps, life-size models. You climb aboard an old fishing boat moored right nearby. Thrills guaranteed!<\/p>\n

The chance to speak about the lives of sailors, storms, the rhythm of the tides\u2026whilst having fun.<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n \"Les<\/picture> <\/div>\r\n<\/div>

Lunch in the walled town<\/div>\r\n

You sit down in a cr\u00eaperie inside the ramparts. Galettes (savoury buckwheat pancakes) with delicious generous fillings, sweet cider, and for the children, chocolate cr\u00eapes and traditional apple juice.<\/p>\n

The waiter tells you a few local anecdotes between dishes. There\u2019s a friendly relaxed atmosphere, and you quickly polish off your plates!<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n

A walk on the ramparts with panoramic views<\/div>\r\n

After lunch, you go on the rampart walk. From above, you have a magnificent view over the harbour, Baie de Concarneau and colourful boats.<\/p>\n

The children try to imagine pirate battles, while you watch the light shift and ripple across the waves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n

Ice creams and a stroll in the shops<\/div>\r\n

A traditional ice cream in hand \u2013 some have salted butter caramel, others Plougastel strawberry \u2013 you walk through the streets. The shop windows are brimming with Breton wares, colourful fa\u00efence glazed earthenware, sailors\u2019 striped tops and scented soap.<\/p>\n

Everyone picks out a little souvenir; a sardine-shaped magnet, algae soap, illustrated book\u2026and box of Breton palets (butter biscuits) for tomorrow\u2019s snack.<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n

Playing on the Plage des Sables Blancs<\/div>\r\n

As you head for home, you stop at the Les Sables Blancs beach, on the way out of town.<\/p>\n

The children run through the sand, collect shells and build a sandcastle. You paddle in the clear water, lulled by the sound of the waves.<\/p>\n

A relaxing evening on the terrace<\/div>\r\n

Back on the campsite, the children dash to the play area, and you start preparing a large mixed salad. This evening, you have a light meal\u2026before a game of Uno on the terrace and a well-deserved rest.<\/p>\n

Concarneau has kept all its promises; a fortified town, living museum and relaxing on the beach, the day has been lovely and varied in equal measure. One more picture-perfect holiday memory!<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n
